Be prepared…. I’m going to now type out a whole chapter of a book. Its not that bad don’t worry… this chapter is only four pages long.

I am still reading ‘Believe You can’ by John Mason. Basically because I haven’t had time to read it with the load of homework that seems to be given in every class but now I have been reading at lunch time. Yup. True sign of a geek. Spending your free time out of class eating and reading an educational and inspiring book. My friend that I’m with most lunch times, when we aren’t at a table with like 10 people where we can’t all actually fit but we are determined to, when that doesn’t happen and my friend and I collect a Hot Chocolate and find that our favorite place to sit on the floor in front of the heater is free… I read and so does she 🙂 Yesterday, I was getting so hyped up about how good Noughts and Crosses is that I made her want to read it so now she’ll have to be prepared for me to ask her every couple of days all the details of what she has been reading. We all know Noughts and Crosses is my favorite so that isn’t surprising.

Anyway, one of the chapters that I read today I thought I’d share with you all.

Over one hundred years ago a woman, wearing a faded gingham dress, and her husband, dressed in a threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston and walked timidly into the outer office of the Havard University president. The secretary instantly decided that these backwoods country hicks had no business in Havard. She frowned.
“We want to see the president,” the man said softly.
“He’ll be busy all day,” the secretary snapped.
“We’ll wait,” the woman replied.
For hours the secretary ignored them, hoping they’d become discouraged and go away. They didn’t. The secretary gradually grew frustrated, and finally she decided to disturb the president: “Maybe if you just see them for a few minuted, they’ll leave,” she told him. He sighed and agreed. The president, stern-faced and haughty, strutted toward the couple. The woman began to speak: “We had a son that attended Havard for one year. He loved Havard and was happy hear. About a year ago, he was accidentally killed. My husband and I would like to erect a memorial to him somewhere on campus.”
The president wasn’t touched. “Madam,” he said condescendingly, “We can’t put up a statue for every person who attended Havard and then died. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery,”
“Oh no,” She explained quickly. “We don’t want to erect a statue. We thought we would like to give a building to Havard.”
The President rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and threadbare suit, then exclaimed: “A building! Do you have an earthly idea how much a building would cost? We have over seven and a half million dollars in the buildings at Havard.”
For a moment she was silent. The president was pleased – he could get rid of them now. But she turned to her husband and said, “Is that all it costs to start a university? Why don’t we start out own?” Her husband nodded, and they left.
The president’s face clouded in confusion and bewilderment; Mr.and Mrs. Leland Stanford walked away and eventually traveled to Palo Alto, California, where they established the university that bear their name – a memorial to a son that Havard no longer cared about.

The president of Havard and his secretary judged the Stanfords by their “Covering” and missed the opportunity for an enormous endowment. This story (though we cannot verify it validity) points out how important it is to see people as God sees them and not to judge them by what they wear, where they live, what they drive, or how they speak. It really is God’s idea to care for people regardless of what they can give or how they appear. Everyone deserves respect and kindness. You will never regret being kind.
What we do for ourselves alone dies with us; what we do for others is timeless. No one is more deceived or cheated than a selfish person.

No man was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave. – Calvin Coolidge

Invest in the success of others. When you help someone up a mountain, you’ll find yourself close tot the summit as well.
Proverbs says. “it is possible to give away and become richer! It is also possible to hold on too tightly and lose everything. Yes, the liberal man shall be rich! By watering others, he waters himself.”

What I gave, I have;
What I spent, I had;
What I kept, I lost.
  –
Old Epitath

You and I were created to help others. If you treat a person as they are, they will remain the same. I you treat the, as if they were what they could be, they can become what they could be. Practicing the Golden Rule is not a sacrifice; it’s an incredible investment. You grow to the extent you give out. By giving out, you create more room to grow on the inside. So don’t give till it hurts; give till it feels good. Make this commitment:

I will leave others better than I found them.

If you want others to improve, let them hear the nice things you say about them. People will treat you the way you view them. Find the good in everyone; draw out their talents and abilities. To lead people, let them know that you are behind them. It is the duty of all leaders to make it difficult for others to do wrong, easy to do right.
What means most in life is what you have done for others. Most people can smile for two months of five words of praise and a pat on the back. The best way to encourage someone else.

Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others con not keep it from themselves. – James Matthew Barrie.

The Kingdom of God is the children’s…

bible, Children, church, friends, God, Hope, jesus, life, love, Sunday, teaching, verses, Word, worship

Today at church one of my friends was leading worship. As you know by now, I love the worship there and she was just super duper!

Today we were talking about the children in the church. How church is a safe place for them but also a place where others must be a good example to them. To teach them what is right.

Mark 10: 13-16

‘One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”  Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.’

There are two ways of understanding this. Firstly, we should become child-like to enter the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of God is the children’s.

Mark 9:37

‘Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.’

But why? Why should we be welcoming to the children?
Here, there are many reasons… Children see their parents. They copy their parents because that is who they trust most. Also, Children being with other families like their own, tactile relationships at an early age, provision of a place to be open to spiritual influences.

How do we do this?
Enable the children to come. Again, referring to Mark 9:37. If we can’t welcome children we are going to have a hard time welcoming God.
Observe the children. Luke 10:21 ‘At that same time Jesus was filled with the jot of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes Father, it pleased you to do it this way.’ We learn from the children.
Lead by example. Demonstrate to them how to worship. Teach them what it is like to let the living water flow. That is what the father is seeking. God is not out there. He’s right here.

We must also learn from them 🙂

Psalm 46

afraid, bible, boat, church, country, faith, fear, Fire, God, heart, Hope, Independence, jesus, kingdom, life, living, love, music, people, relationship, trust, Truthful, UK, verses, worship

Yesterday at church the worship was so good. It always is, but today Phil was leading today and he is an amazing musician.
So, we looked at Psalm 46.

‘Be still and know that I am God.’
‘God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble unto the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!’

Sometimes life doesn’t plan out how you would like it to work out. Fear and doubt are two things that can stop us doing things.

For example: the choice of independence for the UK. We are fearing of what could happen when we don’t actually know what will happen. We make choices because the alternative may be easier.

Luke 8:37:
‘All the people of the Gerascene country asked Jesus to leave, because they were all afraid. So Jesus got into the boat and went back Galilee.’

What freedom and healing did they miss out on? What plan did they miss out on because of fear?
Feelings come and go but the results of our actions never leave. We have to listen to God no matter how we feel. We also have to be truthful and real not only with people, but with God to have a deeper relationship with him.

We need to get into the habit of practicing honesty in reality.

‘A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. god dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. The nations are in chaos, and their Kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts! The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.’

When we remain close to Him, God the father, is when we find our protection. We should take our emotions and turn them into something positive. Not just in Church, but in the nation also!
We are left with the thought that the mission is massive. We are some how limited. Whether its with Kids or time or work. This could be because God is protecting us and so we won’t do it alone and we’ll ask God for help and partner with Him. Knowing our limitations is good because we will realize that God is always with us to help us.

One person is a trickle but a group is a flood.

What is it that God is stiring up in you? What he layed on your heart?

Its easy to feel at times that God has abandoned you.
Daniel 3: 24-25
‘But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?” “Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” They replied. “Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”

He is always with us. Even in the fire.

‘Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” The Lord of Heaven;s Armies are here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.’

What does it mean to be still and know God?
We should include God into everything in our lives. Constant reunion. Even worship music in the background. It keeps our focus on Him.

Practice living in the constant presence.

What does God taste like?

Yesterday at church we talked about what God tastes like. Sounds kind of weird, right? Yeaa, that’s what I thought.

Sometimes we approach the bible like a cook book. Don’t just read your Bible, actually step into it and live the word.
Psalm 34:
“Taste and say that the lord is good.”

We are called to be salt. We’re called to be a flavor in the world. We must root out the taste of bitterness that is still in our hearts. To taste, we have to draw close to god. You can’t taste something without actually putting it in your mouth. In the same way, you have to make the decision, do I want to put this into my mouth and let it be a part of me? do I want to have the bitterness a part of me? we have to ask ourselves these questions.

Over time, we let the sweetness and the river do its work in us. We let the river make us clean. How? Experience. God takes us through different experiences. Experience defines what we do in our lives.

(Some quotes from people)
‘God keeps his promises’
‘His plans for us are good, for our lives to be a blessing, a saving’
‘He stands with you in the fire’
‘He delivers his people from their enemies’
‘He takes you through the wilderness’
‘He hears the private prayers you cannot bear to speak’
‘He answers’
‘He brings life’
‘He is the God who really sees’
‘He rescues’
‘He takes a little and makes it into a lot’
‘Even when I am in darkness the lord will be my light’
‘He heals even the enemies of his people when you are humble’
‘God has the last laugh’

What does God taste like?
There are a great cloud of witness’s who say God is good. Come home.
Come to the place where God is calling you.
What does God taste like to you? If yours not feeling at rest, God has space for you.

After the service, we ate apple pie. The speaker made 14 Apple Pies. 14! So with joy, we ate them:D

Rejoicing. We Know the End of the Story:-)

afraid, beautiful, bible, church, earth, excitement, German, God, heaven, Hope, jesus, life, live, natural disasters, New Hope, news, persecusion, rejoice, Revelation, sermon, teacher, trust, verses, world, world news

Yesterday, as usual, we went to New Hope. I kind of stopped half way so I’m not sure if this even makes sense. We’ll see 😉

There is so much going on in the world right now…  Not that I watch the news. I learn most of the world news from, strangely enough, my German teacher..
The world will be afraid of what is happening. The wars and natural disasters, for example but we know the end of the story. We know that this earth was only meant to be short. Or short compared to eternity. We know the end of the story, we shouldn’t be afraid.

Truthfully, I am kind of afraid. I’m afraid of the persecution and hatred but we know the end of the story. I want to be excited and rejoice. My friends and I say that we will live in a row of houses in heaven lol!!

We must rescue our friends and family.
Revelation: 21 verse 1-4
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out if heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying ‘Now the dwelling of God I with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'”

We must trust God. Even though we can’t see him, we must trust him.
God is in charge of everything. Just think, in heaven right now there is a being seated on the throne and he is in charge of everything.

The Bible says rejoice:-)

Last Sunday Before Germany.

Today at church the Pastor wanted to remind us of what we talked about last week. Climbing up the mountain. God told him to address this subject again.

So, lets remind ourselves. Coming up the mountain means coming closer to God and having a deeper experience with Him.

Galatians 5: 16-26:

“16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[a] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

If we have any of these things we will stay at the bottom of the mountain. Before you start climbing you need to lay aside the things that are holding you back.

“22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

Most of my time during the sermon was taken up by Rachael and I doodling on my note pad. It is the Summer holidays now so the services are family services. They are not long. Now, it is such, such a lovely day today! Definitely in the 20’s 🙂 Good preparation for the warmth of Germany. This is my last Sunday before going to Germany in 2 days!!! 🙂

Jehovah.

Jehovah is different to other names because the others appear less than Jehovah.
The name Jehovah has appeared over 6 and a half thousand times.
Jehovah means Lord. Yahweh means Lord.

Who is Jehovah?
Where does Jehovah operate?
When does Jehovah operate?

The term Lord God has great significance.
Not just Lord but Lord God.
the one who is supreme
The one who is exalted
He is the Lord God almighty.

Jesus is the King of Kings. He has authority over everything.
He is the eternal God.
In heaven we will get to know the one who made us.
Solomon says “Lord you are so great, you over spill the heavens.”
The Lord is the King of Glory.
Every battle He has entered into he has won in a strong and powerful way.
He reins victorious over the enemy.
He is beyond explanation.

In Revelation it says “Hallelujah for the Lord God almighty reigns.”
When Jehovah came in contact with others, others were saved.
This God has an effect on the nations of this world.

Where does he operate?
What is the sphere of His operation? everything that there is comes under His lordship apart from one thing. It covers the heavens. The whole of the heavens comes under his Lordship. Time comes under His Lordship. He is Lord of time.
He is Lord of the animal kingdom. That’s why he could shut the mouth of the lion.
He is the Lord over darkness. he is the light of the world.
He is Lord over the devils work!
This Jehovah is Lord over all that there is. Do you believe that he is Lord over the storms of your life? Jesus Christ is Lord because he comes under Lord ship.

There is one thing where he is not Lord. he is not Lord in your life. He is only Lord of your life by invitation. He has made himself available and wants to be in our lives but does not force himself into our lives. He comes by invitation.

When does He operate?
He is Lord always.
I am means the ever present God. for every person in every nation he is ever present.
He says ” I am the light of the world”, “I am the alpha and the Omega.”
This is my God. he is the Lord over everything.

Romans chapter 10 vs 9
“who ever believes in his heart and confesses with his mouth that Jesus is Lord will be saved.”
We need to confess to the Lord. the situations in our lives we need to confess them because he is Lord of all things and is able to meet us in it.

New Hope – Trust #1

01 Saturday Jun 2013

believe, bible, church, City, culture, family, Fellowship, friends, God, Help, holy spirit, learn, lesson, life, Listen, love, music, New Hope, obedience, obey, pray, Prayer, quotes, relationship, story, style, Summer, trust, truth, verses, walk, Wisdom, worship

Over summer at New Hope I think there is going to be a series on trust. Here is the first one from last night.

God is always there with us. He never leaves us.
Trust is a huge issue in the Bible. It is always mentioned.

Without trust nothing works.
“Trust is the vital component required for any relationship to function successfully”
If people don’t trust one another things don’t go smoothly.

When the relationship between God and man was broken that is when truth was broken but God did not give up.
Adam and Eve didn’t trust one another. We’ve seen wars all based on the fact that people don’t trust each other.
There are so many people in the bible that trusted. They trusted with their lives.

When you go to the hospital you trust the nurses. When you have a job you trust that you will get payed and they trust that you will do the job. When you marry you trust. It is all about trust.
Trust is the base of any relationship.

Back in time…
The Bible doesn’t tell us much of Abraham’s early life. But from mostly Jewish writings there is information that will give us a bigger picture and help us to understand.
Abraham was 58 years old when Noah died. Abraham knew Noah. He new Noah’s son and probably spent days in their home learning. Abraham had great teaching passed down to him.
Abraham believed there was one God and Noah helped him with this.

Abraham was customed to a wealthy live style because of his fathers trade. But
God asked him to give it up. What would you say? He says, follow me, come with me.

Genesis 12:
“God told Abram; “Leave your country, your family, and your fathers home land and I will show you. I’ll make you famous; you’ll be a blessing. I’ll bless those who bless you; those who curse you I’ll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through you.”
So Abram left, just as God said, and Lot left with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Abram took his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot with him, along with all the possessions and people they had gotten in Haran, and set out for the land of Can an and arrived safe and sound.”

1. Abraham listened and he Trusted God.
We listen to so much around us. We fought lives based on lies and many lives were lost. All because people believed what they were told. What we trust will determine what we believe.

Romans 4:
“So how do we fit what we know of Abraham, our first father in faith, into this new way of looking at things? If Abraham, by what he did for God, got God to approve him, he could certainly have taken credit for it. But the story we’re given I a God-story, not an Abraham-story. What we read in scripture is, “Abraham entered into what God was doing for him, and that was the turning point. He trusted God to set him right instead of trying to be right on his own.”

Abraham was given tests during his walk with God. This is to build trust. We have to learn to trust him. When you follow God he has filled you with his holy spirit.
Abraham left his family, friends and culture. he had no idea what would happen but went. Things didn’t always go to plan. His plans. But it was God’s plan. Abraham became Gods family.

Genesis 22, 1-5:
“After all this, God tested Abraham. God said, “Abraham!” “Yes?” answered Abraham. “I’m listening.” He said “Take your son Issac whom you love and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I’ll point out to you.”
Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. He took two of his young servants and his son Issac. He had split wood for the burnt offering. He set out for the place God had directed him. On the third day he looked up and saw the place in the distance. Abraham told his two young servants, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I are going over there to worship; then we’ll come back to you.”

Abraham trusted God.
When your going through tuff times ask God. Ask him to give you wisdom and help you.

Genesis 22, 11-18:
“Just then an angel of God called to him out of Heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes, I’m listening” Don’t lay a hand on that boy! Don’t touch him! Now I know how fearlessly you fear God; you didn’t hesitate to place your son, your dear son, on the alter for me.”
The angel of God spoke from Heaven a second time to Abraham: “I swear – God’s sure word!- because you have gone through with this, and you have not refused to give me your son, your dear, dear son, I’ll bless you – Oh how I’ll bless you! And I’ll make sure that your children flourish – like stars in the sky! like sand on the beaches! an your descendants will defeat their enemies. All nations on Earth will find themselves blessed through your descendants because you obeyed me.”

This is why we are here!! He gave his dear dear son to die on the cross for us.
Abraham did not only listen to God, he obeyed God.

Trust and obey. You’ll be amazed if you achieve these what God will do. When you and I do this city will never be the same.
How do we help our city? Listen and obey.
It was through a series of test that God brought Abraham to Obedience and trust.

Abraham obeyed God because he trusted God

The more you read the word of God you will soon know that God is leading you and talking to you. If it goes wrong you have learned a lesson.

*See if you can find the story of Pii Chui and see if you can trust God like he does.*

We need to learn to trust god. We need to learn to walk with God and listen to him. Otherwise we won’t be able to reach others. We cannot put our trust in the things of this world. God will never fail you. He will grow you and take you through the tuff times. Listen to the spirit of trust, Listen to the spirit and know that God will never leave you.

By listening and Obeying God it proves that you trust Him.
